There are certain times and moments in one’s life that cause one to ponder and think about doing things differently. A different way of living, a different way of relating, a different way of being. The challenge comes not in one’s ability to be consistent for 30 days in hopes of making that choice of doing things differently become their new practice or habit. Nor is the challenge in one possessing a certain level of willpower or having some degree of stick-to-it-ness. The challenge comes in what, or more so Who is at the thrust of that choice of different.
First, consider what and who is at the heart of your choice to embark upon a different way of living, relating, and being. Is what propelling your choice of different mental exercises that an inspirational speaker, motivational speaker, or life coach suggested? Or is your choice of different stemming from your meditation on what the Word of God expresses about you as a child of God and what should be your way of living, relating, and being?
The One who coaches your life should be the leading voice guiding your choice of different. That One is God. And His Word should be fueling your thoughts about and confessions toward your choice of different.
Acts 17:28 (KJV)
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
Let at the heart of your choice of different be focused thinking on God’s expected end for you,
Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
coupled with your commitment to follow the voice of His leading as you journey to make your choice of a different way of living, relating, and being contribute to you fulfilling God’s purpose for your life.
Psalm 25:5 (KJV)
5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: For thou art the God of my salvation; On thee do I wait all the day.
Next, consider what is the driving force behind your choice to embark upon a different way of living, relating, and being. In other words, why are you doing what you are doing? Is the pursuit of your choice of different prompted by what you have seen or admired in others? Or is your quest for different inspired by what you have seen in the Word of God about The One who is to be reflected in your living, relating, and being?
The image of Christ to which believers are to conform should be the influential source motivating your choice of different.
Romans 8:29 (KJV)
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Christ’s image should be the driving force behind your efforts to see a difference reflected in you through your choice to change,
Colossians 3:10 (KJV)
10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.
coupled with your desire to see His image manifested in all aspects of your living, relating, and being.
Ephesians 4:22–24 (KJV)
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Lastly, consider what anchors your choice to embark upon a different way of living, relating, and being. Is your pursuit of different riding on an unsubstantiated desire to be doing something or to be involved with something? Or is your pursuit of different undergirded by your deep-seated passion to be living, relating, and being as God originally designed you to be?
As you choose a different way of living, relating, and being, start your anew with the Word of God, base your anew in the Will of God, and pursue your anew by the Way of God.
Psalm 40:8 (KJV)
8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: Yea, thy law is within my heart.
